What is the bridal carry called?

by Maggie Blackburn

The bridal carry, also known as the cradle carry or princess style carry, is a traditional way of carrying the bride by the groom during a wedding ceremony. I have personally witnessed this style being used in several weddings I have attended and have even had the opportunity to experience it myself during my own wedding.

The term “bridal carry” is commonly used to describe this particular way of carrying the bride. However, it is also referred to as the “cradle carry” because the bride is held in a cradle-like position in the groom’s arms. Additionally, some people may use the term “princess style” carry because it gives off a fairytale-like vibe, with the bride being carried as if she were a princess.

During the bridal carry, the groom lifts the bride off her feet and supports her weight in his arms. The bride’s back is typically supported by one arm, while the other arm supports her legs. This allows the bride to feel secure and comfortable while being carried.

The bridal carry is often used during the wedding ceremony, particularly when the couple is making their grand entrance or when they are moving from one location to another. It adds a romantic and intimate touch to the occasion, symbolizing the groom’s strength and ability to protect and care for his bride.
